All construction activities were put on hold after the state of health emergency was declared in our country as a result of COVID-19. Initially, the parties agreed upon an extraordinary unpaid leave from March 24th through April 5th, and after such period, the regular annual leave was effective from April 6th through April 11th.
Currently, the construction activities are in progress in UPM pulp mill, given that the worker union, employers of the Construction sector and the Government reached an agreement about the actions that must be followed in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in constructions sites.
The agreement settles all measures related to health and security that must be implemented by Companies: controls on accessing-site, transport services, working distancing, cleaning in changing-rooms, bathrooms, canteens, among others.
On the other hand, for Free Trade Zone Companies, the Free Zone Area allowed employees to work remotely from Uruguayan non-free zone territory from March 16th until the actual situation becomes normal. Free Zone Companies cannot normally perform activities outside those areas.
